What are 316 heat exchanger tubes?
Grade 316 tubes are basically standard bearing grade. It has added molybdenum that offers better corrosion resistance properties that are higher compared to other grade types. It shows great corrosion resistance in a chloride environment. It can be excellently welded and formed easily. The transportation of the grade is easy as it is well packed in wooden crates and pallets.
The grade 316 contains elements such as Cr, Ni, Si, Mn, and C. It also possesses better mechanical properties due to hardness, elongation, yielding strength, and tensile strength. The credit for physical properties goes to better elastic modulus, density, thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity, and mean thermal expansion.
As the grade posse’s high corrosion resistance, it can withstand high temperature in tough corrosive media. When subjected to crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion, it has the capacity to withstand warm chloride environment. The stress corrosion cracking capacity of around 60 degree C can be served by the tubes.
In addition to this, it also possess high heat resistance, the tube can work well in temperature range of 870 degrees C. In continuous service, the tube can withstand a temperature of about 925 degrees C. The strength makes it a top-notch product that can withstand both structural pressures as well as temperature. It can even be heat treated at 1010-1120 degree C.
The welding of the heat exchanger tube can be done through filler metals. It has improved machining and a lower rate of tool wearing during the operations.
